My name is Kim Cassamas and the founder of Apply Smarter. I created Apply Smarter because I’m deeply passionate about helping high school students and their families navigate the college search, application, and decision-making process with clarity and confidence. College is one of the most significant investments families make in a child’s future and I believe it deserves thoughtful, intentional guidance to ensure the path chosen is truly the right one.

I’m a certified high school educator with more than 25 years of experience in school counseling and special education. Throughout my career, I’ve worked closely with students and families across the Northeast and Southwest to plan thoughtful, realistic pathways after high school—whether that means college, career training, gap-year experiences, or other meaningful next steps.

For the past 13 years, I’ve specialized in guiding students through every stage of the college search and application process. I’ve collaborated directly with admission representatives from colleges and universities nationwide, giving me deep insight into what makes an application stand out and how students can find the best possible fit.

I hold an undergraduate degree in Special Education and Psychology from Fitchburg State University and a Master of Education in School Counseling from the University of New Hampshire. Today, I live on the beautiful seacoast of New Hampshire, where I’m raising my family—and currently navigating the high school-to-college journey alongside my oldest child. Experiencing this process as both a seasoned educator and a parent has given me a uniquely personal perspective on the hopes, stresses, and decisions families face today.

My background includes roles as a classroom teacher, transition coordinator, case manager, and school counselor—all in high school settings. These experiences have fueled my lifelong passion: helping students discover their strengths, align their choices with their values, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
